188th Fighter Wing turns 60
The 184th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron, now the 188th Fighter Wing, was officially activated with 19 officers and 94 enlisted Oct. 15, 1953. Lt. Col. Hugh B. Correll was also sworn in as the 184th’s first commander on this day. The unit’s first moniker was Ricks’ Rippers in honor of Maj. Gen. Earl T. Ricks, who was a former adjutant general of the Arkansas National Guard and former chief of the National Guard Bureau Air Division. (Courtesy photo illustration)
