188th Fighter Wing turns 60
The original recruiting office of 184th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron (now the 188th Fighter Wing) was set up at the Fort Smith Chamber of Commerce inside the Goldman Hotel (pictured here). Lt. Col. Hugh B. Correll was the first commander of the 184th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron and he administered the oath to the new unit members at the Goldman. The 184th was officially activated with 19 officers and 94 enlisted Oct. 15, 1953. (Courtesy photo illustration)
