Colonel Michael P. Martin

Colonel Michael P. Martin is the Commander of the 188th Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance Group, Ebbing Air National Guard Base, Fort Smith, Arkansas. The 188th Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Group has a targeting mission and also operates the AN/GSQ-272 "SENTINEL" weapon system at Distributed Ground Station-Arkansas as a part of the Air Force's Distributed Common Ground System (DCGS). The 188th ISRG's mission sets include near-real time processing, exploitation, analysis and dissemination of information and data from a number of sources. The unit creates decision- quality actionable intelligence that is disseminated to air, ground and naval force component commanders around the world for use in the planning and execution of military operations across the spectrum of conflict.

Col Michael P. Martin, graduated from Jacksonville High School in May of 1993. Upon graduation, he entered the United States Army. He then graduated Infantry school at Fort Benning, Georgia in October 1993 as an In-direct Fire Infantryman (11C). From 1993 to 1995, Martin was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas. In 1995, he left the active duty and joined Headquarters 39th Infantry Brigade, Arkansas Army National Guard as a traditional guardsman. He then enrolled at the University of Central Arkansas (UCA) in the spring of 1996. In 1999, he joined the 189th Medical Group, Arkansas Air National Guard (ANG) as a Medical Technician (4N). After his 2001 graduation from UCA with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sociology, Michael was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant at the Academy of Military Science in Knoxville, Tennessee. In 2003, he attended the Air Force Intelligence Officer Course at Goodfellow AFB, Texas and was then assigned to the 189th Operations Support Flight as the Chief of Intelligence Operations. Col Martin deployed to Ali Air Base, Iraq in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM and subsequently deployed to support Operation NOBLE EAGLE. As a Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) intelligence professional, he also supported Operations ENDURING FREEDOM, UNIFIED RESPONSE, NEW DAWN, RESOLUTE SUPPORT, and FREEDOM SENTINEL. In 2005, Col Martin became the first ever ANG Intelligence Officer to become a MQ-1B Senior Mission Intelligence Coordinator, Mission Intelligence Coordinator, Instructor Mission Intelligence Coordinator and Intelligence Evaluator qualified. Col Martin transferred to the 214th Reconnaissance Group, Arizona ANG, Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Arizona in 2008 where he amassed 2,332 Intelligence Operations Supervisor hours, 2,062 Mission Intelligence Coordinator hours, 486 Instructor hours, and 516 Evaluator hours. While in Arizona, he held many positions to include the Deputy Commander and Senior Intelligence Officer of the 214th Reconnaissance Group. He was also the Director of Operations for the 214th Operations Support Squadron and the ANG RPA Intelligence Mayor for over a year. Col Martin rejoined the Arkansas ANG on 1 Oct 2016 and has amassed over 1000 hours as a Mission Operations Commander during his career. He was selected as the Director of Operations for the 123rd Intelligence Squadron and the DCGS Operations and Standardizations Working Group Chair in 2016. And from June 2018 to June 2020, Col Martin commanded the 123rd Intelligence Squadron. Col Martin has worked directly with many weapons systems to include C-130s, MQ-1s, MQ-9s, and multiple Air Operations Centers around the globe.
