The National Guard embodies America's volunteer spirit. One member of the 188th Fighter Wing took that selfless fervor to the next level as a volunteer with Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve.

Master Sgt. Brian Anible of the 188th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron was named the ESGR Volunteer of the Year for the state of Arkansas at the ESGR Annual Employer Awards Luncheon held July 21 at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Hot Springs.

"I cannot overemphasize the contribution of which this volunteer brings to Arkansas ESGR," said Maj. Gen. (Ret.) Don Morrow, Arkansas ESGR chair and former adjutant general for the Arkansas National Guard. "He has been one of our most active members and is always looking for ways to develop positive relationships with our state's employers.

"He has a true desire to help our employers and servicemembers, and I greatly depend on him as one of our most valuable volunteers."

In the past year, Sergeant Anible's volunteerism was evident in the number of ESGR-related employer and military outreach activities.

His efforts helped the Arkansas ESGR meet or exceed all state and national employer outreach objectives.

During his outreach efforts this past year, he personally obtained 206 Statements of Support from employers, presented numerous Employer Patriot Awards, volunteered 221 hours of his time and traveled more than 2,100 miles actively supporting the ESGR employer outreach mission.

Sergeant Anible accomplished all of this while still maintaining a challenging, full-time civilian career and serving his country as an Airman in the Arkansas Air National Guard.

"Supportive employers are vital to the success of any National Guard unit," said Col. Tom Anderson, 188th Fighter Wing commander. "You cannot maintain unit readiness without the support of employers. Sergeant Anible's role in helping employers understand and appreciate the value of the Guardsmen they employ is paramount."

Lt. Col. Keith Moore, Arkansas National Guard public affairs officer, contributed information for this story.
