The 188th Fighter Wing/Fort Chaffee Community Council met Wednesday, Oct. 13 at the 188th's Hugh B. Correll Headquarters Building. Col. Tom Anderson, 188th Fighter Wing commander, updated local community and civic leaders on recent and upcoming projects at the Air National Guard unit.

Col. Keith Klemmer, commander of the Arkansas Army National Guard's 142nd Fires Brigade, discussed 142nd operations at Fort Chaffee.

Lt. Col. Ray Hunter, commander of the 188th's 184th Fighter Squadron, discussed the unit's Aerospace Expeditionary Forces deployment to Kandahar, Afghanistan. Hunter was commander of the 184th Expeditionary Squadron during the 188th's deployment. The unit returned from Kandahar last May.

Hunter's presentation included pictures from the deployment and declassified Weapons System Video footage captured by the 188th's A-10s while engaged in combat operations.

The purpose of the Community Council is to bolster the relationship between community leaders, employers and both Fort Chaffee and the 188th.

"It takes a lot of cooperation between the community, employers and the National Guard to help ensure our mission is a success," Hunter said. "The Community Council exists to help strengthen that relationship. It's important for leaders in the community to understand what we do and it's important that they understand how much we appreciate their support."
