The 188th Fighter Wing Base Honor Guard is searching for motivated and committed volunteers who have the availability to fill short notice details. The details typically last a few hours and include posting the colors at sporting events and military celebrations, flag folding at retirement ceremonies and veterans' funerals, and appearing at a variety of other military-appropriate occasions.

If accepted into the program, individuals will attend a five-day training program, provided by the Little Rock Air Force Base Honor Guard. Individuals will also receive their honor guard uniform at that time.

There are significant benefits for honor guard members, including special recognition, additional pay, travel opportunities and awards. The primary reasons for being a member of honor guard, though, cannot be measured in tangible benefits.

"The appreciative look in the eyes of a departed veteran's family as you provide the final salute for their service and sacrifices is something words cannot describe," said Capt. Matt Holguin, 188th Honor Guard OIC.

Individuals interested in joining, please contact Master Sgt. Brian Mays, 188th Honor Guard NCOIC, at 479-573-5430 or via e-mail at brian.mays@arftsm.ang.af.mil. Interested individuals may also contact Holguin at 479-573-5221 or via e-mail at carlos.holguin@arftsm.ang.af.mil .
