Airmen from across the 188th Wing gathered together Dec. 5, 2015 to celebrate the accomplishments of their fellow unit members during a commander's call recognizing the Outstanding Airmen of the Year. Forty two Outstanding Airmen of the Year nominees were recognized for their exceptional service to the wing throughout the last year that distinguished themselves among the best in the 188th.

Brig. Gen. Kurt Vogel, commander of the Arkansas Air National Guard, joined Col. Bobbi Doorenbos, 188th Wing commander, to honor all nominees and present the awards for OAY in the following categories: Airman of the Year; Noncommissioned Officer of the Year; Senior NCO of the Year; First Sgt. of the Year; Company Grade Officer of the Year; Field Grade Officer of the Year. Second-place winners in each wing category were presented with an Outstanding Service Award plaque. Each nominee received and Outstanding Service Certificate.

"I'm so extremely proud of each and every one of you who was nominated today," said Doorenbos. "Your exceptional work ethic coupled with your dedication to accomplish the mission while balancing the whole Airman concept is extraordinary. I'm honored to work alongside you and serve as your commander and I am thankful for all the supervisors who noticed your hard work and nominated you for this award. You are all deserving of this recognition and are true assets to the 188th Wing and the Air National Guard."

The OAY winners will move on to compete at the state level in the coming months. The winners of the state level awards will compete at the national level.
