Airmen with the 188th Wing were on hand to support the Fort Smith Public Schools’ 2019 ICan Career Expo held October 22, 2019, at the Fort Smith Convention Center here.

Airmen from several sections across the wing, including information technology, operations, and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR), introduced area junior high and high school students to their jobs with the wing, and the education required in their careers.

“We’re focusing on the bigger career fields we have at the wing — operations and ISR — and showing students that the things they do now will have a big impact on preparing for careers like those,” said Staff Sgt. Ryan Grinnell with the 123rd Intelligence Squadron. “We’re looking for those smart individuals with creative thinking to solve the problems our wing meets every day.”

To help students understand the wing’s mission, Airmen showed off a computer simulation of how remotely piloted aircraft and intelligence operations function and led them through the steps of a typical mission.

The Arkansas Air National Guard’s 188th Wing provides decision advantage through ISR and execute strike capability across the full spectrum of conflict, while cultivating ready, responsive, and highly-skilled Airmen. During times of emergency or natural disaster, the wing serves to protect life and property, as well as preserve the peace, order, and public safety.
