The 188th Fighter Wing helped remember our nation's most distinguished patriots in a Veteran's Day ceremony held at the Fort Smith National Cemetery in Fort Smith, Ark., Nov. 11, 2010.

Community and city leaders, servicemembers, veterans organizations and veteran supporters gathered to pay tribute to those who served and are currently serving in our nation's armed forces.

Col. Tom Anderson, 188th Fighter Wing commander, was event's keynote speaker.

"Today many families are missing their loved ones who are serving abroad," Anderson said during his speech. "All too many families will today remember a loved one who served valiantly but will not return. Those veterans live on in the memories of those who knew them and loved them. Their sacrifices will never be forgotten.

"The contributions that our servicemen and women have made for this nation don't end when they take off the uniform and neither do our obligations to them.

"On this Veteran's Day, let us all remember those veterans who served before, celebrate those who are currently serving and encourage those who desire to make that same sacrifice in the future."
