188th Fighter Wing produces dominant showing at TAG marksmanship matches

The 188th Fighter Wing took aim at the top prize and shot down the competition en route to a dominating exhibition of shooting skill at the annual 2010 Arkansas National Guard Adjutant General's (TAG) Marksmanship Sustainment Training Exercise April 24-25 at Camp Joseph T. Robinson.

The 188th, an Air National Guard unit based in Fort Smith, Ark., snatched first place in six different events, including the overall individual and team titles.

The 188th's Team Red took top overall team honors at the 2010 TAG Matches. Team Red is comprised of Master Sgt. Mark McDaniel, Tech Sgt. Chad Niccum, Master Sgt. Ron White, Jr. and Senior Airman Westly Wagner. Team Red was presented its trophy by Brig. Gen. Travis D. Balch, Chief of Staff, Arkansas Air National Guard.

The 188th's Tech Sgt. Chad Niccum was crowned the event's overall individual champion. Niccum was presented with the accolade by Brig. Gen. Richard Swann, Chief of the Joint Staff, Arkansas National Guard.

"We're extremely proud of all of our 188th Fighter Wing marksmen and continue to be impressed with the skills they exhibit year in and year out," said Col. Tom Anderson, 188th Fighter Wing commander. "Their performance was nothing short of dominant. Every year at this competition they perform admirably and this year was no different. It was an absolutely stellar showing."

Team Red also earned top honors in the Team Pistol event. That accolade was presented to the squad by Brig. Gen. Swan.

Niccum's pistol aptitudes helped garner his overall title. He snatched first place in the Individual Pistol event. Brig. Gen. Swan present Niccum with the award.

The 188th's Master Sgt. Ron White proved to be the state's top rifleman, boasting first place in the Individual Rifle competition. Brig. Gen. William Johnson, Deputy Adjutant General, Arkansas National Guard, presented White with the top prize.

Taking top honors in the Team Rifle competition was the 188th's Team White, which is comprised of Senior Airman Nathan Sosebee, Master Sgt. Michael Ritchie, Master Sgt. Gregory Palmer and Chief Master Sgt. Gary Taylor. Brig. Gen. Johnson presented Team White with its first-place trophy.
