Airman 1st Class Barry Jordan and Airman 1st Class Greggorey Brewer, emergency management specialists assigned to the 188th Civil Engineer Squadron, presented their civilian employers, Dwayne Shackelford and Connie Knittig of Baldor Electric, with Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Patriot Awards Jan. 16, 2015.

The Patriot Award seeks to honor individual supervisors who support citizen warriors through a range of measures including flexible schedules, time off for training and deployments, caring for families and leave of absences if necessary.

Brewer explained why he selected Knitting for the prestigious award.

"Connie Knittig is highly supportive of my dedication and service to the Arkansas Air National Guard," said Brewer. "She encourages me to expand my knowledge and skills in the Air Guard and in at my job with Baldor Electric."

"Being from a military family, I am honored to support Greggorey with his military goals," Knittig stated.

Jordan's supervisor, Shackelford, was honored and humbled in receiving the ESGR Patriot award. He was also appreciative of the statement of support that was given to him by the ESGR Outreach Coordinator, Lt. Col. Judith Mathewson, 188th Mission Support Group deputy commander.

Members who would like to thank their civilian employer, as Jordan and Brewer did, may contact Mathewson at 479-573-5182 for employers in the Fort Smith, Arkansas area or 1st Sgt. Brian Anible at 501-269-3501 for employers in the Northwest Arkansas region.
