The Arkansas National Guard hosted an awards ceremony on Jan. 6 to announce the Employee of the Year Awards to outstanding employees.

The 188th Wing took home two state-wide awards during the ceremony. Master Sgt. Mark Allen of the 188th Force Support Squadron earned the Arkansas Air National Guard Active Guard Reserve Employee of the Year Award. Maj. Heath Allen, wing executive officer with the 188th, won the Arkansas ANG Federal Military Technician of the Year Award. Technical Sgt. Jessica Wilson of the 288th Operations Support Squadron was a wing-level award winner and nominee for AGR of the Year at the ceremony. Wilson is a native of Van Buren.

Master Sgt. Allen of Fort Smith, Arkansas was instrumental to wing success during the 188th's mission conversion job placement process, ensuring that not one member of the unit lost employment due to the transition. Maj. Allen of Springdale, Arkansas, was critical in the orchestration of multiple key events at the 188th over the last year including project officer duties for the wing's 60th anniversary celebration and Conversion Day in which the unit's last two A-10C Thunderbolt II "Warthogs" departed Ebbing ANG Base in Fort Smith.

Master Sgt. Allen and Maj. Allen also received the Arkansas Exceptional Service Medal during the ceremony.

The awards program was established and designed to recognize and honor the Arkansas Military Department's full-time employees who have distinguished themselves through exceptional performance of duties during 2014. The nominees are judged according to several criteria: Performance of duties; customer service, team building, attitude, work ethic and safety; contributions to the Arkansas National Guard; and community involvement.

"I am privileged to present these awards to such an outstanding group of employees," said Maj. Gen. William Wofford, then-Arkansas National Guard adjutant general. "I want to recognize the family and friends of these nominees who are present; your support has been instrumental in their success."
